Pvt. Jerome A. Fallon - World War II Veteran
Shortly after Pearl Harbor, Pres. John Hannah of MSU called a college convocation and urged students not to panic and immediately enlist, pointing out that it would be a long war. With difficulty, Jerry followed his advice, joining the Americal Division Artillery in November, 1943. He served in the Division Artillery throughout the South Pacific and Philippine Islands campaigns. One of his assignments was to act as an observer on planes as they flew over Japanese-occupied areas to pinpoint gun emplacements. Jerry’s artillery unit was preparing for the assault on Japan when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. After the Japanese surrender his division occupied Japan from September, 1945 to November, 1945.
